Days Without Number

Nick's father is a retired archaeologist who is a supposed descendant of the emperors of Byzantium. When someone puts in a ridiculously high offer for the family's home in Cornwall, the old man refuses to sell, to the fury of his family. Only after his death does Nick discover why.
